Maintenance of Cargo Scanners (OBR / KONTEL)

Since 2023, KONTEL has been providing maintenance services for the cargo scanners of the Burundi Revenue Authority (OBR).

To ensure the availability and optimal performance of the equipment, KONTEL has established a partnership with Smiths Detection, the manufacturer of the scanners and one of the world's leading companies in security screening technologies. Under this partnership, KONTEL performs preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and technical support to ensure the efficient operation of cargo inspection activities.

In addition to maintaining the cargo scanners, KONTEL also provides cargo transit monitoring services on behalf of the Burundi Revenue Authority (OBR).

This service is designed to strengthen control and traceability of cargo movements by ensuring continuous monitoring of transit operations and contributing to the detection of potential irregularities.

Through a structured approach and rigorous technical oversight, KONTEL helps improve the efficiency of customs procedures and enhances the reliability of customs operations within the OBR.

KONTEL has established a strategic partnership with Smiths Detection, the manufacturer of the cargo scanners and a global leader in detection and screening technologies. This collaboration enables KONTEL to benefit from world-class technical expertise, ensuring reliable, high-quality, and sustainable maintenance of cargo scanning systems.

As part of this partnership, Smiths Detection strengthens KONTEL's capabilities through:

Technical support and expert assistance during maintenance and intervention activities on the cargo scanners.

KONTEL – BBS Partnership

Project #05

KONTEL – CENI Partnership

KONTEL played a key role in the modernization of Burundi's electoral process by providing its expertise to successfully support the 2025 legislative elections. Our IT teams were deployed at the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) Data Processing Center (DPC) to ensure the technological success of the electoral process.

Key achievements include:

Infrastructure: Complete deployment of the LAN network, structured cabling, and configuration of central servers.
Software Management: Installation, access security, and continuous updates of voter registration workstations.
High Availability: Real-time technical support and critical maintenance of voter card printers, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
Security: Rigorous technical closure with the secure erasure of all residual sensitive data.
